Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale (CVMC) opens the Holiday season with John Rutter’s Magnificat and Hagenberg’s Illuminare.
Artistic Director Dr. Ryan Tibbetts will conduct the 50-member chorale, a soprano soloist, and an 18-piece orchestra with accompaniment by nationally-renowned organist, Daniel Stipe.
Based out of Ashland Virginia, CVMC is a volunteer ensemble dedicated to creating outstanding performances of choral music to the communities of Central Virginia.
Rutter’s Magnificat, first performed in 1990 and based on Christian scripture, highlights a canticle sung by Jesus’ mother Mary when she visits her cousin Elizabeth. “Magnificat” (Latin for My Soul Magnifies the Lord) has become one of the great choral works of the holiday season.
Hagenberg’s Illuminare explores the themes of darkness and light. The piece takes us through a season of beauty and goodness that has been disrupted by darkness and confusion. As Light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace.
