Our Mission
Duncan Memorial has a long tradition of active service in missions in our own community, and around the world. Teams from this congregation have served in missions in Guatemala, Ukraine, Honduras, the Philippines, and Mexico, as well as the Eastern Shore, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. We sponsor Lunch Train, and partner with the Society of St. Andrew, Shalom Farms, and Stop Hunger Now to help address the needs of those who are food-challenged. Locally, Duncan Memorial members are leaders in Habitat for Humanity projects, Ashland Christian Emergency Services (A.C.E.S.), West Hanover Wood Ministry, Harvest of Hope and, most recently, Circles Ashland, an effort to eliminate poverty by building relationships between those in need and mentors in the community.
Education
No matter what your age, learning never ends. The atmosphere is ripe for spiritual growth at Duncan Memorial. Our church is enriched by its historic ties to Randolph-Macon College and the involvement of its faculty and students. Our children and youth educational programs are led by caring, committed teachers. The curriculum is age-appropriate and fun. Adults may choose from a variety of Sunday morning and evening fellowship groups. Duncan Memorial has had several graduating classes from DISCIPLE Bible Study programs.
Worship
Coming together for worship is central to the life of the church and empowers us to move out in ministry. Duncan Memorial currently offers a combined service at 10:30 am every Sunday featuring a message from Rev. Michael Kendall, music, both contemporary and traditional, from a variety of our talented community members, and communion. As well, at different points throughout the year, experience special worship services and special music programs.
Fellowship
There are many ways to become involved in the life of the congregation and to meet members of the church family. We have fellowship time before/after services on Sundays, picnics and brunches throughout the year; we host a Table Fellowship program involving sharing a meal with others at their homes to become better acquainted; and we facilitate several programs, including a monthly Lunch Bunch at local eateries; a monthly book discussion group called Portable Magic; and Congregational Care Communities where you can strengthen relationships with folks in your neighborhood.
